First Grade

      The first grade is an important and exciting time in a child’s education. It is a year of transition and amazing growth. During this first year the children are getting settled into the routine of school and developing good listening, work and study habits. With daily homework assignments they become more responsible and independent workers.

      Children come to first grade knowing the sounds of letters and reading a few words and by the end of the year they are reading books. In Math their counting skills become adding and subtracting two digit numbers and solving word problems by the end of the year.

      As each child expresses their thoughts and ideas in writing by using complete sentences one realizes they are on the road to becoming great students.

      With parental support at home each child can reach his or her potential.
