Welcome to Sixth Grade

Entering the middle school, with many different teachers and expectations, is a major change for our sixth grade students. We strive to help them develop the organizational habits and study skills they need to cope with new challenges. In religion class we focus on familiarity with the Bible and the Old Testament roots of our faith.

The sixth graders get up and move around daily; across the hall to social studies with Mrs. Hoffer and language arts with Mrs. Bowe, down to the science room with Miss Sweigart, and off to specials on a weekly basis. Weekly classes include computer, library, music, health, and art.  Our sixth graders take on school responsibilities, including putting out benches for preschool families to sit on while waiting for school to start, and helping our cafeteria staff with the trash.   Altar servers may volunteer to serve at our school Masses, and we take our turn preparing the liturgy.  The sixth grade is responsible for our school Thanksgiving prayer service.  Sixth graders look forward to meeting with their pre-school buddies every other week.  The older students enjoy helping with arts and crafts, playing with their little buddies outside or in the pre-school classroom, and taking on the role of big buddies and role models.

Students entering the sixth grade must complete the summer reading project.  instructions for project  reading list for project
